M180 INGs Junctions 1 to 2 Phase 2

Project Details:


The aim of the scheme is to smooth traffic flows at the junction with the M18 at Junction 5 by adding an additional lane, improve safety and reduce potential delays. The scheme will involve widening M180 approach to the roundabout, strengthening the roundabout embankment, widening the carriageway on the roundabout, install new traffic signs and lighting, drainage improvements, install new barriers on the roundabout and exit slip road and install a new barrier within the centre reserve.

Duration: January 2014 to March 2014


Roocroft Scope of Works and Duration:


  • Remove existing steel VRS

  • Install approximately 2km of Concrete Step Barrier within the central reservation

  • Install connections into existing Concrete Step Barrier and existing steel Vehicle Restraint System


i54 M54 Junction 2 Improvement Works


Project Description


Location: Wolverhampton


Client: Wolverhampton City Council and Staffordshire County Council Joint Venture


Project Details:


This scheme is the first council-funded motorway development in Britain. The value of the scheme is £40 million. The money will be spent providing new roundabouts and a flyover so that cars and lorries can get from the M54 straight onto the i54 business park on the border between South Staffordshire and FordhousesThe deal has been created under powers provided due to the scheme being part of the Black Country Enterprise Zone. The Enterprise Zones give the councils more control over rates as well as the option to draw up relaxed planning rules to attract developers.


Duration: 34 weeks


Scope of Works:


  • Remove 2,500m of existing safety fencingInstall 2,500m of normal containment VRS

  • Install 200m of high containment VRS

  • Install 29no terminals to the VRS

  • Post testing to new Vehicle Restraint Systems

  • Install 500m of Concrete Step Barrier

  • 8no transitions from CSB to steel VRS

  • Install 166m of Vehicle Parapets

  • Install 8no transitions from Parapet to steel VRS

  • Install 1,200m of concrete slipformed surface water channel

  • Install 56no channel outlets
